There's is no scandal here, and that's because actress Lisa Kudrow is actually shockingly upfront about her life.
In a candid new interview with The Saturday Evening Post, the 50-year-old star, who will join ABC's hit drama "Scandal," opens up about everything from being dumped by her two best friends in junior high school and being made an outcast to experiencing anti-semitism. She even tells the magazine how getting a nose job changed her life.
"That was life altering," she said of the surgery. "I went from, in my mind, hideous, to not hideous. I did it the summer before going to a new high school. So there were plenty of people who wouldn’t know how hideous I looked before. That was a good, good, good change."
The former "Friends" star also opened up about tracing her own genealogy on an episode of the show "Who Do You Think You Are," which she also produces, and dealing with the realization that some of her family members had been lost in the Holocaust. Kudrow said that although she'd taken Jewish history classes, she was in denial that the Holocaust applied to her own family.
"So I didn’t have to be burdened with the nightmare of what happened to people I knew. Then as I got older my grandmother told me it was Hitler who killed everybody in her family, and that’s the first time I came face-to-face with it. In my fully denial state of mind it was, 'No, no, we’re not part of the Holocaust.' But I learned we are," she explained to the magazine, before answering the follow up question if she's experienced anti-semitism.
"Yes, I have. In college there was more anti-semitism than before college, because there were people who never met a Jew before. A friend of mine, when she found out I was Jewish, said, 'Really? Oh, I don’t like Jews.'"
On a lighter note, when the conversation turned to her work on "Friends," Kudrow revealed that fans often call out to her by her character's name, Phoebe, but, she says, "I don’t turn around. I never turn around. If someone’s in front of me, I’ll smile and try to be nice. But I don’t like taking pictures. Autographs are fine."
