Stand-up comedy fans will be happy to learn that Netflix recently announced plans to release original stand-up comedy specials, kicking off with Russell Peters' "Notorious" on October 14.
Peters, who Forbes named the third highest grossing stand-up comedian of 2013, has a huge following around the world, with much of his comedy coming from jokes about his Indian heritage (Peters was born in Canada to Anglo-Indian parents). In addition to "Notorious," Netflix will also release a four-part documentary series about Peters' life.
Netflix has bought a few other stand-up specials that were released exclusively through the streaming service, such as comedy specials from Todd Glass and Moshe Kasher, but Peters' special kicks off a new commitment to producing specials for the service. Aziz Ansari's "Buried Alive" will be the second special Netflix releases, on November 4.
