Fans of the Nintendo fitness series Wii Fit will have a chance to try the next game on Wii U for free.

The company says it will launch Wii Fit U as a free download starting on November 1. There is one catch: the full game is only available to users for one month. When the month expires, users can opt to keep the game by purchasing a Fit Meter accessory for $19.99.

The Fit Meter is a pedometer users carry in their pocket that will measure steps, intensity and altitude in case users are climbing steps or walking uphill.

Wii Fit U will also be available as a packaged disc game on Dec. 13. Nintendo did not reveal details on the price.

The next edition of Wii Fit will include 77 activities, some of which will use the Wii U's GamePad tablet controller. As with previous versions, a Balance Board is required to play.

Nintendo is also launching the Wii Sports Club, a version of the company's classic Wii Sports game that adds social elements through Miiverse. Each of the game's five sports -- baseball, boxing, tennis, golf and bowling -- will be sold separately with HD graphics and improved controls. Players can then set up sports clubs to chat with friends or challenge them to events.
