Jim Carrey may have distanced himself from the promotion of 'Kick-Ass 2' in the wake of the Sandy Hook shootings in the US, but his co-star has revealed a side to the comic star that can leave no one in any doubt of his commitment to the film.

"We were on a budget shooting Kick-Ass 2, so Jim paid for all his of his own prosthetics," reveals Aaron Taylor-Johnson, who plays the title role for the second time around.

"Not only that, he sat there for an hour and a half each morning, because he was just dedicated, and he's passionate about what he does.

"He came on board because he was a huge fan of the first one and of the comic book, and he took that character and created that face and voice. He's just this force of nature, raw energy and humour, fun and depth. A great person to be around."

Carrey may have found a fan in his co-star, but he left producers of the sequel bemused when he refused to promote the film, which was made before the Sandy Hook massacre which left 26 dead, but due to be publicised and released afterwards.

Announcing on Twitter that he was distancing himself from the upcoming sequel, he wrote:

Jim Carrey plays Colonel Stars and Stripes in 'Kick-Ass 2', a character who allows his attack dog to bite on the genitals of an enemy.

Creator of the comic Mark Miller responded this week, thanking the larger-than-life actor for "$30 million of free mainstream publicity".
