'Prison Break' star Wentworth Miller has confirmed rumours he is gay, as he came out while taking a stand against Russia's anti-gay laws.
The actor revealed his sexuality in an open letter on LGBT campaigners GLAAD's website, explaining how he was invited to attend a Russian film festival, but turned down the invitation due the country's homophobic legislations.
Addressing St. Petersburg International Film Festival director Maria Averbakh, he wrote: "Thank you for your kind invitation. As someone who has enjoyed visiting Russia in the past and can also claim a degree of Russian ancestry, it would make me happy to say yes.
"However, as a gay man, I must decline. I am deeply troubled by the current attitude toward and treatment of gay men and women by the Russian government.
"The situation is in no way acceptable, and I cannot in good conscience participate in a celebratory occasion hosted by a country where people like myself are being systematically denied their basic right to live and love openly.
"Perhaps, when and if circumstances improve, I'll be free to make a different choice," he added.
Back in June, Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a bill which defines 'homosexual propaganda' as pornography, with fines and arrests for those making it accessible to minors.
Then in July, he passed a law which banned the adoption of Russian-born children by gay couples.
Previously, a law passed in 2012 banned gay pride events from taking place in Moscow for the next 100 years.
